Gwyn Miller Entry
Dear President Roosevelt,
My name is Gwyn Miller and I wanted to ask for help for me and
my family who are suffering because of this depression. Before the depression me
and my family were doing fine, my husband had a steady job as a Ford factory
worker but he was laid off because the factory was not selling any cars so they
had to shut down the factories. I have two boys Jonathan and James Miller and
they are adults now. My husband is trying to find a job and it is difficult for
him because no one wants to hire anyone right now and we are barely getting by
with the money we still have after selling some appliances we had for food. I
know this is a lot of asking but can you give us something to let us know there
will be a tomorrow.
Not many people believe things will get better like Hoover said
and many people don’t have a lot of hope left. We are not going to make it for
long since we have very little money left from selling our things and I just
something that can help assure us that the economy will go back up and things
will go back to what it was before. I have heard a lot of saddening stories
about people who have lost everything since the stock market crashed such as
people taking their life because they have no way of sustaining themselves
anymore and they had lost everything so there was nothing left for them. I do
not want that to happen to my family because I care about them and I want to see
our proud nation to survive and get through this depression and I
know you will be able to get America through the depression.
I know you get a lot of letters from other Americans who are in
a similar situation like my family but all I really want is help. I need to know
that the government is really going to help the American citizens and not do
anything like Hoover did. What I want is some help with money or the very least
some food so we can keep on going and we can have hope so we can go on until
there is a more effective way to get out of the depression. All I really need is
help so my family and me can make it because a lot of people are losing hope and
are dying because they are starving to death and have to place to live and no
money to support them. I want help from the government because I don’t have much
faith in it and I heard talks of a revolution if things don’t change and I heard
people saying revolutions that happened in Germany and Russia and they got out
of their depression through the revolutions, I don’t want that to happen so
please I ask you if you can help us with this depression and make sure my family
lives through it.
Sincerely,
Gwyn Miller

Dear Mr. President,
My family and I are
suffering. Our father used to
work as a factory worker in the Ford factory, but lost his
job when the stock market crashed and now
can't find a job (mostly
because he doesn't try to). There are four of us that have nothing to eat almost
every day. My brother and I also
have no jobs and would be willing to work to support our family. I know you
might be busy with your duties as president,
but we literally have nothing but the roof over our heads that
we can't even pay rent for.
We've tried getting jobs, but to no
avail. Every town that we struggle to
travel to ends up not having any kinds of
jobs available. There are those that aren't hiring, and those
that don't have any available. We can't afford to try looking for jobs in
another state outside of our
own due to the lack of resources we have access to. If you
could find a way to give my brother and I
jobs, we could support the rest of our family and would be
very thankful. Thank you for taking to time
to read this letter.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Miller

Dear President
Franklin D. Roosevelt,
I like to thank you for what you have
done so far by giving people help. Without you, I know that this country would
have collapse and a new revolution will start. I'm glad that
it did not happen, I'm no ready for these types of things. For your caring about
us, you have create programs that help us and that is something that Hoover will
never do. These programs that you have created had also change my life and
including my family. Now that we have jobs, we do not need to worry about
getting hungry and now my family has a shelter and all thanks to you. For
you caring about us I feel that I want to to give something to you to show
my gratitude for you. Also thanks to replace worst president Hoover,
doing nothing and expect the economy to recover like that, ha! You prove him
wrong, right Roosevelt? You showed that the government can help us in this horrible economy. By creating
different the New Deal programs, and one of them were the CCC which help me a
lot. I hope that one day that I can visit you in person to show
my gratitude towards you. But for rift now I need to help my family first.

Dear Mr. Roosevelt,
My Name is John Miller and I am in desperate need of your help
sir. I understand you are really trying to help unemployed Americans and I
really need help. I was once a Ford factory worker but I lost my job. Each
month I am having to sell more and more personal things we have and I cannot
bare the sad faces of my 2 sons and wife when I have to. All I ask is for work
Mr. President. Not only that if I don't get a job soon I feel our family will fall apart
my two sons seek work as well and I would not want them to leave our family to find it.
I would appreciate work that can help us unemployed get back on the horse and help this
economy be like it once was, thriving. I was once a hard worker who would work my hands to the bone if
I had too. I will surely do that again if you could only give me a chance Mr.
President. I will work in hard conditions all I need is a opportunity.
Please devise some program that will offer jobs, anything. My family
is counting on you, I am counting on you. Thank
you
Sincerely,
John Miller
