John Miller Entry
My name is John Miller and I am approaching my 40s. I live in good old Hoover Ville and I have 2 sons name James Miller and Jonathan Miller also a wife named Gwen Miller. Our family fights more than it ever had and sadly may break apart. I currently am unemployed and all we can do to entertain us is
either kick a can around or is we had the money to spare maybe see a visual play or movie but not likely. Ever since the stock market crashed everyone has been loosing everything. We ourselves lost everything but not as bad as others. Businesses closed down and thousands of workers lost their jobs even myself. But that's not the worst part, a man I knew lost his job his house everything he owned all because he bought his stuff on credit and could not pay it back. My family luckily bought anything from margin or credit so we got to keep our belongings but we had to sell things like our refrigerator and washer for extra money. Times our terrible, they keep telling us to hang in there but for how long.
Times are hard yes everyone pretty much lost everything from houses to even the clothes on their back all because we went crazy spending away. On top of that some money to stockbrokers. Even the high rollers with all there money were in trouble they were nearly bankrupt after paying their bills. They
call these times the great depression and I have never seen sadder faces on anyone in my life until now. My family as well was affected we now live in
Hoover Ville in our cardboard box of a house and things just keep getting worse and worse. My boys learned about men going on trains finding jobs across
country. My wife begs them not to go but I wont stop them. There's nothing
for them here and their men now and need to live their lives like they please. I was so unsure why I was fired. We once made so many cars then toward
the beginning of this depression we had more cars than we could sell. Hoover is not even being the president we need. He tries to tax us saying
this will help our government and says he wont help us that we need to help ourselves but how could we. That's not all, veterans of the great war cant wait
for their check me included. We are thinking of marching up to that kingdom Hoover lives in and demand our payment we don't need it 10 years from now we need it today. I just don't believe what I am going threw. I am confused, I feel like this is only my fault. Maybe if I kept my money at home in a
safe. My life's earnings was gone when I got their all I had was possessions but not money to keep them. My family is just falling apart. I feel
like I am forever falling. I hope I even live for a better time.

James Miller Entry
My name is James Miller, it has been about 10 years since I last wrote an journal. Now I'm writing about between those years that I did not wrote about, since now I have plenty of time to write. Today I'm 22 years old still living with my parents, but not in that two-room apartment anymore... I miss that home...My mother Gwyn Miller is mostly depress that we have no money and the fact that we are living in the streets of New York. I'm still jobless along with my father John Miller and my brother Jonathan Miller, we tried to find jobs but with no luck, so we have to live with no income to live by. We are trying our best to look for a job, but more and more people are jobless putting our hopes down of getting a job. With only some cardboard box, we made a small house in a alley. We use to have furniture around our Hoover house, but we sell it so that we have money to buy food... but it wasn't enough for us to eat for a month. All of this suffering had started in 1929, the day were the US economy fail and depression started. My father lost his job, but luckily we don't own any one money. Then again, we have lost our home and we have useless items since they must have electricity, so we sold these items. The 1922 that I use to know is gone, with great economy and joy. Remembering how 1920's was, makes me sad, I want it to be return or at least the economy is back and
running.
As far as I know, many people are also suffering on this Great Depressions. Like my father, my brother and I, many people are looking for jobs with no luck of finding one. Although I'm planning to get on a train the next day in hope to find a job. I've seen many people getting on trains to go far places to find a job, but I don't know if they do. But I'll find out once I get on that train and start looking for a job. Any how, we have lost our money since the bank lost money too and we are not the only ones. In 1929 many people visited the bank to withdraw their money, but in the end they ended up finding out that the bank is closed. Knowing that, many people knew that they have lost everything that they had saved. Many people lose their home and including us. So we have to move somewhere to live in, before we were living in the alley in New York, we use to live in Hoover village. There were so many people, I knew that the collapse of this economy have effected every one in the country. One day at the hoover village, I heard screams that my family went outside to see whats happing. We end up learning that someone had killed them selfs and many were talking about and stated that the government is doing nothing about this poor economy. Killing
myself is something that I won't do, but the conditions is getting harder for us to survive. Even I agree that the government is not helping us, President Hoover did nothing and the reason for this is unknown, for me and perhaps to other
people. But I do know that the government doesn't care about us. As l heard there was a Bonus Army and they were veterans of the Great War, that my father also participated, protesting at the White House, but was bet down by the government army. Many people were shocked that the government army was used against veterans who fought in the Great War. I myself felt the this country will fail at this rate. I feel luckily that someone had a radio near by us, that we listen and... It helps forget the miserable life that I have. But when the radio is over, we return back to reality. Everyday violence is increasing so the police had to some and stop it. Then we move away from the Hoover village, since there were so many violence and
is getting crowded. So here we are at the a alley some where in New York... I'm hoping that the train will take me to a better place. At least there is place where we can spend for our entertainment for only a few cents. At least these entertainment help me and my family with this pressure and sadness in us. Into joy and happiness for a while, at least having happiness is better then having nothing.

Compared to 1922, my family's life has
taken a turn for the worse. My
father lost his
job (or lack there of), we
became suddenly much more poorer than we were
before, however we aren't totally poor. In 1922, my father put stocks in a few
companies with the money we had left over
that wasn't in the bank. For each year that went by, the
stocks went up and
they eventually
became way more than they were originally worth. Now, they
aren't worth anything, we
can't afford anything, and my father is out of a
job.
Apparently the factory that my
father worked at,
they worked off all of their workers because of
the economy crashing. Everyone I've seen since the stock
market crash seems to have
been affected in some way. Stores haven't been hiring, while others
haven't been open. Many banks closed because
they ran out of money. I've seen many
people blaming the president for the poor state of everything,
too.

Gwyn Miller
Dear Dairy,
My name is Gwyn Miller and I am
42 years old and live with my family in New York. I still lve with John my
husband and my kids Jonathan and James Miller. We used to spend time together as
a family and I was a stau at home wife since John worked as a Ford factory
worker. We invested in stocks but didn't get much money and since the factory
was not selling a lot of cars the factory made less money and went out of
business due to the stock market crashing. Now we are homeless and we only our
funiture and other materials we bought before but we need to sell most of it to
have some money to survive to live through until the government fixed
things.
The U.S. economy is
terrible and we are in a time many people say the Great Depression since there
is no money being made or going around to businesses. We are affected by this
since John lost his job because the factory wasn't making any money because of
the stock market crash and the factory closed so John lost his job at the Ford
factory. We lost our homes like most Americans since a lot of people lost their
life savings because the banks closed and a lot of people were out of jobs. A
lot of people remember the day known as black tuesday in Ocotber 1929 when the
stock market crahsed and a lot people lost their money because of this. There
were settlements called Hoovervilles because President Hoover did not attempt to
help many Americans thinking we can help ourselves but it backfired and it made
things even worse.
